RCPCH guidelines for virtual consultations
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) has recognised the challenge and fears around remote consultations with our paediatric populations.
Interestingly they acknowledge the benefits of different modalities of telemedicine, whilst also discussing some of the challenges unique to children. They also discuss the risk of widening health inequalities, as some families will not have access to phones with good quality cameras or fast internet connections.
A strength of this resource is that it was produced following focus groups with potential users of remote technology. The pragmatic recommendations include:
. The logistics of the remote consultation
. How to communicate effectively over phone and video
. Managing safeguarding concerns
. Summarising and closing the consultation
